DC has long admitted it has a ‘Robin problem,’ often calling Batman out for having far too many current and former sidekicks running around Gotham. And now, the comic publisher has issued an ominous statement about ‘fixing the problem,’ leaving fans wondering if one of their favorite Boy Wonders, past or present, is in immediate danger of getting the ax.
DC legends Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb recently sat down on DC’s official YouTube channel for a Q&A, answering fan-submitted questions about their ongoing Batman story arc, Hush 2. A direct sequel to their critically acclaimed Hush storyline that was originally published from 2002 to 2003 across Batman #608–619.
One of the most notable moments to come from the Q&A was when the two began discussing the Bat-Family’s role in the story. Loeb acknowledged that Bruce is a father to many Robins and followed that up with the ominous and telling statement: “We’re going to have to fix that.” The implication was clear: Hush 2 may bring another death in the family.

Loeb’s ominous statement concerning Batman’s Robins, which was meant to encompass those who currently hold the title as well as those who held it in the past, came in response to a question about the overarching theme of Hush 2. Loeb took the lead in answering and described the sequel in two succinct words: “Hush’s revenge.” He explained that Hush’s pursuit of revenge will set the stage for how Batman deals with the villain and shape how he handles the Bat-Family, who will all be playing a prominent role in the story. This seemingly suggests that Bruce will go up against his own kids.
While Loeb remained tight-lipped on what fans can expect regarding Bruce’s interactions with his family, he offered a chilling tease: “Batman is the father to a lot of Robins and […] we’re going to have to fix that.” Based on the context of this statement, it is clear that Loeb is acknowledging Bruce’s growing list of sidekicks, often referred to as the “Robin problem.” His comment that he and Jim Lee are going to fix it suggests they have plans to reduce the number of Robins. How they intend to do that, however, remains a mystery.

Some may still be hesitant to believe that Loeb is threatening to cut one of Batman’s former or current Robins based solely on that single statement. However, the fact that he revisited this possibility later in the Q&A only adds credence to it. Loeb confirmed that Damian Wayne will appear in Hush 2 issue #3, but then added, “Whether he gets out of it is something else, [but] we are going to do something about this Robin problem.” Once again, Loeb suggests that they have plans to take action against Batman’s Robins in a way that will result in a downsizing of his active sidekicks, past or present.
