Welcome back to Upcoming Comics! This week is pretty short, but I suppose that’s appropriate for the shortest week of the year. That’s right, Daylight Savings is back and that means that everyone loses an hour Sunday morning. No one likes it, but we as a society just can’t seem to get rid of the biannual jumps. I know my dog definitely gets confused every time as to why her food is at a different time. Hopefully even with one less hour of free time, you can still manage to get some comics in.
Upcoming Comics
Batman: Dark Patterns #4
CASE 02: ‘The Voice of the Tower,’ Part I There is a strange tower in Gotham City where the voices of the living and the dead echo. Its inhabitants are in a standoff with the police, with one officer dead and another held hostage inside, a riot seems all but guaranteed, unless Batman can navigate the building and save the missing police officer. But what the Caped Crusader discovers is that the people of the tower are following the direction of a single, strangely familiar voice that thrums throughout the building, and the voice wants blood.

Thoughts: “Case 01” was great, and easily solidified this series as a big highlight coming out of DC. I can’t wait for more.

Batman and Robin #19
As Memento’s reign of terror continues, the city’s inhabitants find themselves locked in terror as Gotham awaits his next move. Meanwhile, Damian Wayne doubts if Batman and Robin are enough to save their city. Are the Dynamic Duo truly helping to keep Gotham safe, or does their presence simply enable violence and villainy to thrive? A heart-to-heart between Damian and Jason Todd, and Jason’s subsequent demystifying of what it means to be Robin, has left the son of Batman questioning his place and his future. Now, with Memento close to delivering a killing blow on Batman, the Dark Knight needs his son more than ever, but will Robin answer the call?

Art By: Javi Fernandez
Thoughts: I thought that was Anarky on the cover, and was about to wonder how PKJ was going to find a way to fit him into the plot. Lonnie needs to confront Memento for stealing his fit.

DC vs Vampires: World War V #7
The child of Mister Miracle and Big Barda has been heralded as the only one capable of ending the war between vampires and humans, or so Granny Goodness says. Has her savior narrative just been a smoke screen for the arrival of Darkseid?
Written By: Matthew Rosenberg, Joey Esposito
Art By: Otto Schmidt, Pasquale Qualano
Thoughts: What do you do when you run out of conflict ideas in a DC crossover? You throw in Darkseid.
Batman News Critic: Akash
Beyond the Bat
Welcome to Beyond the Bat, where we take a quick look at the rest of DC’s comics coming out this week.
Graphic Novel Watch
Sometimes you need more than floppies. Sometimes you want something that can sit nicely on your shelf that proudly displays your favorite stories. That’s when you turn to graphic novels. Let’s see what bat collections are coming out this week:
Ratings
Most Excited: Batman: Dark Patterns #4– Like I said, this is my favorite bat book out right now.
Least Excited: DC vs Vampires: World War V #7– The good news about Darkseid showing up is that you can’t really go any higher, so maybe this is finally coming to a conclusion.
Wild Card: Batman and Robin #19– I enjoy reading the discourse around PKJ’s choices in Damian’s characterization. Some of them definitely seem questionable to me, but I’m willing to see them play out.
Well that’s it for this week! Let us know in the comments what comics you’re looking forward to.
