It looks like Sgt. Rock from DC Studios isn’t even leaving basic training.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Luca Guadagnino’s DC Studios film based on the most famous soldier out there, Sgt. Rock isn’t moving forward. It was set to shoot this summer but will no longer. The feature with Colin Farrell as the titular DC Comics hero was in pre-production and planned to shoot in England.

They were apparently in the middle of casting the film for the men of Easy Company. Sources say that Mike Faist, who starred in Challengers was set for a role with others also in the middle of casting.

The reasoning behind the shutdown wasn’t clear whether it was budgeting or just scheduling. They did make clear that the film wasn’t being outright canceled but would be re-assessed at the end of the year for a possible summer shoot in 2026.

The Timeline Of Sgt. Rock At DC Studios

Sgt. Rock didn’t make the original list of movies and other properties that DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran discussed when they announced their first wave of projects, but it was high on their list. The script from Justin Kuritzkes was a large part of that.

Other sources say the script would see Rock teaming up with a Female French Resistance fighter to find the mythical Spear of Destiny, the spear used to stab Jesus Christ during his crucifixion and is said to have supernatural powers, before the Nazis get their hands on it.

The character of Sgt. Franklin John Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and first appeared in DC comics in 1959, Our Army At War. He was a WWII soldier who served in the infantry. He got his own comic series in 1977 which ran until 1988. While he doesn’t have any “superhuman” abilities, he’s one of the greatest soldiers ever seen in comics. Some of his accomplishments include taking down a plane with just a submachine gun, and surviving gunshot wounds with the best of them.
