When it comes to beating Dragon Ball’s Goku in a fight, don’t look to Superman, look to the Flash instead. There’s no doubt Clark Kent is strong, the simple truth is that Goku is one of the most overpowered characters in fiction. Seriously, just take a look at any power-scaling list and chances are that Goku is number one.
And yet, DC has its own hero that’s so incredibly overpowered that they stand a much better chance of going toe-to-toe with the Dragon Ball franchise’s iconic character. The Flash (let’s be real, Wally West) is connected to a living energy source known as the Speed Force and, through hard work and decades of training, the Scarlet Speedster has become a living embodiment of speed, time, and power. Sure, Goku has faced down some of the toughest opponents in his world. But in a face-to-face confrontation, the Flash would 100% beat Goku in a fair fight.
The Last Few Years Have Seen the Flash Grow Outrageously Powerful
From Clone Armies to Leaving Reality, Wally West is a Menace!
When it comes to heroes in the DC Universe, few heroes have worked as hard at pushing their powers as Wally West. When Barry Allen disappeared during Crisis on Infinite Earths, Wally didn’t slouch when the baton was passed onto him. He took the legacy and ran with it (literally), learning everything he could about the mysterious Speed Force and seeing what he could do. The Flash discovered amazing new applications of his speed, including the ability to generate costumes using the Speed Force and even developing his most impressive move, the Infinite Mass Punch.
…once he did and stepped back into the spotlight as DC Comics’ main Flash, he went straight back to pushing himself.
Wally’s development as a speedster did take an unfortunate turn during the New 52 when he briefly disappeared from reality thanks to Doctor Manhattan’s interference. But West came back and once he did and stepped back into the spotlight as DC Comics’ main Flash, he went straight back to pushing himself. In one adventure, he faced off against Granny Goodness, who used a powerful artifact to put an infinite distance between her and Wally, only for the Flash to literally outrun the concept of infinity.
Wally has continued to grow more powerful in the most recent run of The Flash. After accidentally crashing through an atomic mirror and discovering the hidden layers of reality (the SpectraVerse), Wally found a way to ‘side-step’ through reality itself, allowing him to actually leave and re-enter the threads of his own narrative. If that wasn’t powerful enough, Flash has also recently found a way to create duplicates (or aura relatives) of himself, as many as 7000 at once, generating an entire army of Scarlet Speedsters.
Flash’s aura relatives can be seen in The Flash #20, on sale now!
Goku is Canonically Powerful Enough to Take on Superman
As Good as the Man of Steel Is, Dragon Ball’s Icon Has Him Beat
To be fair, comparing strength levels is hard across different source materials. Granted, Superman is by far one of the most powerful beings in fiction, and he’s got a number of impressive feats to his name. He held the equivalent of a black hole in his hand and he once lifted a book that contained infinite pages. That being said, Superman isn’t without his weaknesses, and not just kryptonite or red solar radiation, either. If an opponent has enough raw strength, they can do serious damage to Superman.
Remember, Doomsday once managed to beat Superman with nothing but his fists.
The Last Son of Krypton is powerful indeed, and if there’s anyone who could rival DC’s greatest icon, it’s Goku. Much like Clark, Goku came to Earth at a young age, and he showed incredible promise during his youth. Goku spent most of his life training to fight from some of the Earth’s greatest martial artists to working with aliens and even literal gods. Just when one thinks he’s reached the apex of his powers, Goku manages to achieve a new level of power, making him faster and stronger than he was before.
…Goku becomes faster than any living being can comprehend.
The most powerful form Goku’s ever achieved is his Perfected Ultra Instinct form, a state that puts Goku on a level of power far beyond the gods of his world. Not only does it drastically augment his Super Saiyan powers, but Goku becomes faster than any living being can comprehend. His body moves automatically and the energy flowing through him makes Goku all but a god himself. It was this form that allowed Goku to beat Jiren, a being many considered to be the strongest fighter in existence.
Yes, The Flash Could Absolutely Defeat Goku
As Fast as Goku Is, Wally West is Speed Personified
At the end of the day, everyone wants their favorite to be the winner of a hypothetical match-up. As far as Superman and Goku are concerned, it’s incredibly likely that the most powerful Saiyan triumphs over the most powerful Kryptonian. But when looking at things objectively, it seems that as powerful as Goku is in some of his strongest forms, even he’s not powerful enough to beat Wally West. Let’s face it, Goku’s strength is good, but is it really all that compared to the Flash’s speed?
…is Goku fast enough to take on a dozen, a hundred, or even a thousand Flash copies?
Seriously, just look at how Wally cracked the Infinite Mass Punch. By accelerating fast enough, his mass increases towards infinity and anyone able to even survive that kind of attack isn’t going to get up from it easily. One may say that Goku could move fast enough to avoid Wally’s punch, and that may be true. But is Goku fast enough to take on a dozen, a hundred, or even a thousand Flash copies? With the Flash’s new copying ability, Wally would almost certainly be able to land a devastating punch on Goku’s jaw.
Again, in ‘what if’-type battles like this, there are no true guarantees. But with everything the Flash is capable of, one can’t deny that Wally would give Goku a run for his money. Maybe Goku would eventually find a way to defeat the Flash and pull out a move that gives him an advantage over the Fastest Man Alive. But in a direct fight, the Flash would absolutely do what Superman certainly couldn’t and beat Goku.
