The superhero film Sgt Rock, helmed by Challengers filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, is not dead, merely delayed. Early reports suggested that the movie had been shelved, but another report revealed the film has been halted until 2026. Here’s all we know about the DC Studios film set to star Colin Farrell as a World War II soldier

Sgt Rock starring Colin Farrell is not shelved

According to a report in Deadline, Sgt Rock was due to begin production in the UK. However, a decision was taken to hit pause on the film after they decided it was not possible to begin filming this summer in August, as more pre-production time was required and they would not be able to make their deadlines. Furthermore, shooting in the UK winter is also not feasible. Therefore, filming has been pushed to next summer instead.

The report also states that director Guadagnino was already scouting locations in the UK. The studio was also pursuing deals with Alien: Romulus star David Jonsson and Challengers actor Mike Faist to join Farrell on the $65 million budget film. Since Sgt Rock has fallen through, Guadagnino is reportedly moving ahead with the American Psycho remake.

While Colin Farrell already plays Oz Cobb aka the Penguin in the DC universe, he would have been part of another story with the World War II-set superhero action film. Earlier, Daniel Craig was set to take over the role as he had just completed Queer with Guadagnino. After the former James Bond actor exited the project, Farrell agreed to the role.
