KXLG – Watertown, SD On today’s KXLG Community Connection, our guest was Coach Taylor Johnson and several members of the Watertown Figure Skate Club about their upcoming annual ice show, “Battle of the Powers: Heroes vs. Villains.” The show promises a spectacular display featuring a wide array of superhero and villain characters, from classic figures like Spider-Man, Batman, and Cinderella to more recent favorites like Paw Patrol and PJ Masks.

Coach Johnson highlighted the elaborate set design, transforming the arena into Gotham City, complete with a moving Batmobile. The show will kick off with a dynamic opening number by the advanced team, followed by various “battles” between heroes and villains, culminating in a grand finale with all 110 skaters on the ice.

The Watertown Figure Skate Club is not just about performances; it is also a competitive club with national aspirations. Coach Johnson proudly announced that they have four gold medalist skaters, with more on the horizon. This is a significant achievement as there are fewer than 20 such skaters in the entire state. A group of their skaters even qualified for nationals in Michigan this summer.

The annual ice show serves as a fundraiser for the club, supporting their training and travel expenses. However, it’s also a celebration of the skaters’ hard work and progress throughout the year, giving both young and advanced members a chance to showcase their skills in costume for the community. While the end-of-year show involves intensive, weeks-long daily practice, the club occasionally holds a less extravagant Christmas show as well.

Tickets for “Battle of the Powers: Heroes vs. Villains” are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased at the County Fair or at the door. The new arena will host two shows on Saturday at 1:30 PM and 6:00 PM and one show on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
