The DC Universe may be getting closer to revealing what’s planned for Wonder Woman as James Gunn shares a huge update on the iconic heroine. The DCU’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” slate has just gotten started, thanks to Creature Commandos’ premiere in 2024, and the upcoming release of Superman in July. However, there are several major heroes making their way to the DCU, as lots of announced projects are currently in various development stages, while there are still films and TV shows that DC Studios have yet to reveal.

Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads if he had any updates on Wonder Woman, which led to a very exciting response from the DC Studios co-CEO. Gunn stated that they are “not to be shared publicly yet,” before adding, “But yes. Encouraging.” Check out his comment below:

To this point, there has technically only been a single glimpse of Wonder Woman in the DCU franchise, which was through animation. During the vision that Circe showed Amanda Waller in Creature Commandos of the future, viewers saw a dead Wonder Woman alongside multiple Justice League characters for a brief second.

For the time being, it remains to be seen when DC Studios will announce what they have planned for Wonder Woman. However, from Gunn’s latest update alone, one project he could be teasing is the previously announced Paradise Lost TV show, which will be a prequel series prior to Diana Prince’s birth. At a press event back in March 2025, with ScreenRant in attendance, DC Studios confirmed that the Paradise Lost pilot was being written, and Gunn’s latest comments could hint that it’s getting closer to happening.

The other possibility in terms of Gunn’s Wonder Woman teasing is perhaps that an actual solo movie for Diana is being developed. Since Wonder Woman was the only one from the DC trinity that didn’t get her own film announced back in January 2023 when the “Gods and Monsters” slate was revealed, Gunn could be hinting that they’re finally getting ready to move forward with a DCU film starring the titular heroine. It’s possible that DC Studios is working with a writer or writers now on a DCU Wonder Woman movie pitch, and if things move in the right direction, that could be a future announcement waiting to happen.

As cryptic as Gunn was in his update, it’s still incredible to hear that “encouraging” things are happening for Wonder Woman at DC Studios. Whether or not future events like San Diego Comic-Con, which is only two months away, will see DC Studios reveal more about Wonder Woman remains to be seen, but that would be an ideal place to confirm what they are planning for Diana in the DCU timeline. Hopefully, at least before 2025 is over, the world will have a better idea of what to expect from Wonder Woman in the DCU.

DC Universe

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Wonder Woman

The Wonder Woman franchise is part of the larger DC Extended Universe (DCEU), focusing on Diana Prince, an Amazonian princess and warrior who becomes the superhero Wonder Woman. The franchise began with the 2017 film Wonder Woman, which was a critical and commercial success, followed by Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020. These films explore Diana’s origins, her role in world conflicts, and her personal journey in adapting to the world of humans. The franchise is known for its strong feminist themes, action-packed sequences, and its portrayal of Wonder Woman as a symbol of peace and justice.
