Wonder Woman returns! A new feature film about one of DC Comics’ biggest heroes, Wonder Woman, is “being written right now,” says DC Studios co-chief James Gunn.
The movie would be an addition to an HBO series about Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home. Gunn told EW the series is “slow moving, but it’s moving.”
The film would be a fresh start for Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman. The character was played on the big screen by Gal Gadot in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, 2017’s Wonder Woman and Justice League, 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984, 2021’s Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and made a cameo in 2023’s The Flash. With Gunn and co-chief Peter Safran rebooting the DC Universe, it is safe to assume that Gadot will not play the character moving forward. (A representative for DC Studios has not yet confirmed this.)
This Wonder Woman film is one of several films in development at DC Studios. Superman opens in July, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, and is written and directed by Gunn. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow opens in June 2026, which stars House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock, and is directed by Craig Gillespie from a script by Ana Nogueira. Clayface, a horror film about one of Batman’s famous villains, is set to open in September 2026, and will be directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. Dynamic Duo will be an animated feature about Batman’s Robin sidekicks Dick Grayson and Jason Todd and is set for June 2028.
In his EW interview, Gunn confirmed he is planning another movie for Superman. “But is it a straight-up Superman sequel?” he said. “I would not say necessarily.” He was also reserved when sharing his plans for the DCU’s TV slate, which includes Creature Commandos, Lanterns, and a second season of Peacemaker.
When asked if those plans are related to the Justice League, Gunn simply answered, “Sure.”
