NetherRealm and Warner Bros. have been quiet with respect to the future of the Injustice series, though many fans are still hoping to see the rise of Injustice 3 someday. The first two Injustice games, released in 2013 and 2017 respectively, have garnered quite a fair bit of success, being viewed as strong executions of the Mortal Kombat fighting mechanics set against a DC Comics backdrop.
Given the rich history of DC Comics, which encompasses all manner of settings, characters, and science-fantasy concepts, Injustice 3 represents virtually limitless potential. But the most promising and discussion-spurring aspect of Injustice 3 is, perhaps unsurprisingly, its roster: there are so many iconic and interesting DC characters that haven’t yet appeared in Injustice, and it feels like only a matter of time before they make their entrance. While staple characters and those with decades of continuity are most often nominated by fans for integration into the Injustice legacy, newer heroes and villains deserve some time to shine too. Jonathan Samuel Kent, firstborn son of Superman and Lois, is one of them.
Jonathan Samuel Kent is named after Clark Kent’s father, so he is often referred to as simply “Jon.”

Predicting a Reveal Window For Injustice 3
While there’s no word on a potential Injustice 3 as of yet, it may be possible to predict when the game may be revealed based on a couple of factors.
Jonathan Kent Is Part of Modern DC History
With a few notable exceptions, such as Miles Morales, the most iconic and well-known comic book characters are those who were introduced at or around the inception of the medium as it’s understood today. The likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man have all been around for several decades, suggesting that the comics industry prizes tradition over innovation, for better or worse. But every now and then, there’s the opportunity to let a fresh face shine; Jon Kent is one such fresh face.
As the first Earthborn Kryptonian, Jon Kent has unique life experience and biology that sets him apart from many other superhumans and post-humans of DC’s oeuvre. Because of his unprecedented mix of human and Kryptonian DNA, it’s believed that Jon has the potential to grow even more powerful than his father, making him an imposing threat in addition to a well-meaning, corn-fed youth. As Superman’s son, he could very well lead the next era of DC Comics, playing a significant role in new stories and ever-shifting comic-book world-building. Thus, it should go without saying that he should join Injustice 3‘s roster.
Jon Kent Could Play a Powerful Role in Injustice 3’s Story
The Injustice story kicks off with the death of a pregnant Lois Lane at the hands Superman, brainwashed by the Joker into believing that she is Doomsday. This inadvertent murder, coupled with the destruction of Metropolis, sends Superman into a downward spiral, ultimately believing that a tyrannical world government, with him at the helm, is the only way to achieve true peace. Superman kills the Joker, and comes to accept that occasional murder is acceptable if it means offsetting greater death and misery. Naturally, this puts him at odds with Batman, sparking a war between the two.
Regardless of which Injustice 2 ending is made canon, Superman doesn’t return to his old worldview: he either continues to rule as a tyrant or gets banished to the Phantom Zone by Batman.
Since a huge part of Superman’s descent into madness is the loss of his unborn child, seeing Jon Kent in Injustice 3 could be devastating for him. Of course, Jon would need to travel from another world, but it’s not like that’s an unprecedented plot development. Upon meeting Jon, the man meant to be his first son, Superman could have a change of heart, especially if the former aligns himself in opposition to his father’s newfound ideals; it could take clashing with his son, spirited from another universe, for Superman to recant his destructive beliefs.
