Warning! Spoilers ahead for DC x Sonic The Hedgehog #2!If the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is up for it, DC Comics has the best possible idea for a new crossover. While James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU is just getting started, the Sonic franchise is doing better than ever with three wildly successful live-action films.

Neither Sonic the Hedgehog nor the DC Universe are strangers to crossovers, but for the first time the two worlds have collided in their latest collaboration, DC x Sonic the Hedgehog. As the adventure continues, a solid case is made for this story to serve as the basis for a crossover feature film (if both franchises are game, of course).

DC x Sonic the Hedgehog #2 Brings the Video Game Heroes to the DCU

Just Look at How Wild This Story Gets

In DC x Sonic the Hedgehog #2 by Ian Flynn, Adam Bryce Thomas, Matt Herms, and Becca Carey, Sonic and the Flash encounter Darkseid, who has taken possession of the blue Chaos Emerald. Darkseid attempts to vanquish the duo with his Omega Beams, but the two manage to avoid being hit with the deadly blast. Unfortunately, Darkseid manages to get away and returns to the Ragna Rock, where he orders his underlings to find the rest of the Chaos Emeralds at any cost.

Cyborg and Tails manage to deduce where Darkseid’s forces are heading and they all spread out to find the remaining Chaos Emeralds before the New God can get his hands on them. While the League and Sonic’s allies fight valiantly, Darkseid has introduced the blue Chaos Emerald to the Dimensional Engine, and it’s already powerful enough to rip the world asunder. The heroes all head to the Ragna Rock in order to take on Darkseid before he can gather more Emeralds and move onto destroying entire universes.

Sonic tries to retrieve the Chaos Emerald from Darkseid while Flash attempts to dismantle the Dimensional Engine. The engine begins to destabilize time and space while Darkseid tries to bring it back under his control. The Justice League holds back Darkseid from gaining control of the Dimensional Engine while also preparing Sonic and his friends for transport. Batman calls on a Boom Tube and the group is transported from their home world to the DC Universe where they meet Mister Terrific. Unfortunately, Terrific informs the team that their world, along with the Justice League, is gone.

The Sonic/DC Crossover Would Be a Hell of a Live-Action Elseworlds Tale

This Story Has All the Ingredients Necessary For a Great Movie

Maybe it’s putting the cart before the horse, but how awesome would it be to see this kind of story in a live-action crossover that bridges Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with the upcoming DCU? Everything that fans love about the Sonic movies is here in this story as well, from the humor to the references to past material and a lot of really cool action scenes. And come on, David Corenswet’s Superman bonding with Idris Elba’s Knuckles? That just has to be seen on the silver screen.

Granted, beyond Creature Commandos, Gunn and Safran’s DCU hasn’t even really begun yet. Sure, Superman is right around the corner, along with Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns, but the current state of the franchise pales in comparison to the Sonic franchise’s three movies and one show. But it’ll build up faster than fans know and once it really gets off the ground, there are a lot of stories the new DCU could explore. And thanks to the ‘Elseworlds’ brand, fans could theoretically see a DC x Sonic adaptation one day.

While Sonic and his pals are almost certainly never going to play a role in the main continuity of the DCU’s upcoming films, DC Studios has established an Elseworlds brand for media not strictly a part of the main DCU canon. Without continuity to worry about, a DC x Sonic movie could really thrive and, let’s face it, put a lot of butts in seats for people who want to see Sonic snarking it up with the Flash (assuming they cast a Flash sometime soon). It may be a pipe dream, but a DC/Sonic crossover movie could be real fun.

DC and Sonic Should Keep Up Their Collaboration

Ideas Like This Are Too Good to Go to Waste

Not since Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has there been such a fun crossover for DC, and that got an animated movie out of it. DC x Sonic may only be two issues so far, but it’s a lot of fun and if both franchises are interested, they should absolutely adapt this story into something for wider audiences so that everyone can see just how well they work together.
