Lanterns may still be a ways off, but there are some key Green Lantern characters I’d love to see in the upcoming DCU series. In the comics, there are multiple colors and corps on the Emotional Spectrum beyond the green lights of willpower wielded by Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and more officers of the Green Lanterns Corps. With that in mind, it would be very exciting to see some classic characters debut from the greater Green Lantern mythos.

Releasing in 2026, Lanterns has been described as a True Detective-type story where Hal Jordan and John Stewart are investigating a murder in the American Heartland. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the show won’t feature more of the cosmic elements Green Lantern comics are traditionally known for. Keeping that in mind, here are 6 legacy characters I’d love to see in Lanterns beyond Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Kyle Rayner

Last of the “Core Four”

Currently, we know that Hal Jordan will be a veteran officer of the Green Lantern Corps, played by Kyle Chandler. Meanwhile, John Stewart will be a rookie who’s still new to slinging the ring, played by Aaron Pierre. Likewise, Nathan Fillion is playing Guy Gardner in 2025’s Superman, technically making him the DCU’s first on-screen Green Lantern. However, there’s still one more human Green Lantern who needs to debut to complete the “Core 4” team: Kyle Rayner.

Taking over as a leading Green Lantern hero following Hal Jordan’s corruption as Parallax, Kyle Rayner was a struggling artist before he received a ring of his own. Likewise, he started out his career as a lone Green Lantern before the Corps was eventually reformed in the DC Comics canon. As such, it would be fascinating to see Kyle Rayner enter the DCU in connection with a similar arc adapted from the page.

Other humans have since joined the Green Lantern Corps in the modern comics era including Simon Baz, Jessica Cruz, and Jo Mullein.

Kilowog

The Green Lantern Corps’ Trainer

In charge of training new Green Lantern recruits, Kilowog is the primary drill sergeant on the Guardians’ homeworld of Oa, the Green Lanterns’ headquarters at the center of the galaxy. One of the biggest and strongest Green Lanterns to ever sling the ring, very few Lanterns are willing to tangle with Kilowog on their own. It would make sense to see Kilowog in 2026’s in Lanterns, espeically if John Stewart is debuting as a rookiee.

4

Atrocitus

Leader of the Red Lanterns

Ulrich Thomsen is confirmed to be playing the classic Green Lantern supervillain Sinestro, a former Green Lantern who started his own corps wielding the yellow light of fear. However, there have also been rumors that actor Paul Ben-Victor may be playing Atrocitus, leader of the rage-filled Red Lanterns. According to reports, Paul Ben-Victor is playing an alien named Antaan, “an extraterrestrial devoted to exposing the truth and exacting vengeance against those who wronged his people. Consumed by a deep and unrelenting hatred for the law, he is determined to deliver justice on his own terms.

10 Green Lantern Storylines We’re Desperate To See In The DCU

Now that the Green Lantern Corps look to get some love in the DCU, there are a number of iconic storylines we would definitely like to see.

Antaan cetainly sounds like DC’s Atrocitus aka Atros. On the page, Atrocitus formed the Red Lanterns after his space sector was almost entirely wiped out by the Manhunters, the Guardians’ original peacekeepers before the Green Lanterns. Swearing vengeance and holding a hatred for those upholding the law, Antaan will hopefully be revealed as the DCU’s Atrocitus, opening up some very exciting opportunities for the Lanterns series.

Arkillo

Sinestro’s Right Hand

At the moment, it’s unknown how far along in his journey Sinestro will be. However, if he has formed the Sinestro Corps by the start of DCU’s Lanterns, it would be very exciting to see the debut of Arkillo, Sinestro’s right hand and one of the most fearsome warriors in the entire DC Universe. Serving as the Sinestro Corps’ drill sergeant, Arkillo is naturally a key rival of Kilowog’s.

2

Carol Ferris aka Star Sapphire

Hal’s Love Interest

Originally Hal Jordan’s primary love interest in DC Comics, Carol Ferris ran Ferris Aircraft, where Hal worked as test pilot. However, Carol eventually became a Star Sapphire, beginning as a Green Lantern villain but later gained a more heroic role during the Blackest Night event, wielding the violet light of love along with the newly formed Star Sapphire Corps. As such, it would be great to see Carol in some capacity in 2026’s Lanterns, whether that’s just running Ferris Aircraft or with a more active role wielding a ring of her own.

1

Ganthet

The Only Redeemable Guardian

The Guardians of the Universe are largely apathetic to the concerns of their Green Lanterns, though Ganthet is one of the few exceptions, expressing empathy and is far less secretive than his fellow Guardians. Eventually, he and his fellow Guardian Sayd are banished from the Guardians of Oa for not hiding their emotions. Together, they eventually create the Blue Lantern Corps, harnessing the blue light of hope. As such, it would be very exciting to see Ganthet providing Hal and John with some guidance at some point in Lanterns, and/or some teases for Blue Lanterns in the DCU’s future.

DC Studios’ Lanterns is set to release in early 2026.
