There have been many rumors about the Superman 2025 budget, with many denials from director James Gunn on how much his upcoming film cost to make. But an anonymous talent agent has revealed the Superman budget, which is notably less than a prior report made it out to be. The agent also shares what the box office numbers will need to be for the movie to break even and to be considered a global success. Indeed, much is riding on this Superman film, not just because it’s a reboot, but because it’s the first in Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe. Here’s how much the production budget is for Superman 2025.
The Superman 2025 budget is allegedly $225 million. According to one source, the international box office sales for the upcoming film will need to be $500 million for the movie to break even and over $700 million to be declared a hit.
These numbers comes from an anonymous “top talent agent” as well as an insider speaking with TheWrap. For a point of comparison to the global box officer numbers for other Superman movies, Superman Returns grossed nearly $400 million, Man of Steel banked $670 million, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice grabbed north of $870 million.
A news report in June 2024 from News5Cleveland previously claimed that the movie, then codenamed “Genesis,” had a budget of $363 million according to an Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit application. However, when a user on Threads asked James Gunn whether the report was true, the director vehemently denied the number, replying “No. Good God. I wish I had somewhere even close to that!” Considering this response, the new $225 million figure looks to be more in line with what he said.
There was also another rumor swirling around that Superman 2025 had a budget for $180 million, but the projected number didn’t seem to have a source.
