The Titans are getting ready to add a powerful new member to their ranks and make the fan-favorite team mightier than ever. Since the events Absolute Power, the Titans have been refining their operation, and now they’re about to bring a long-lost hero back. But will they be able to trust their new teammate?
Fans have gotten a glimpse at what’s on the horizon thanks to DC Comics’ batch of May solicitations. It may be the ‘Summer of Superman’, but there are big developments in the Titans’ corner of the DC Universe. According to Titans #23’s solicitation, the team is getting a new member, one that Cyborg has a hand in bringing to life.
Unfortunately, the main cover doesn’t hint who this new addition is, but Tom Raney’s variant does. Raney’s cover shows the Titans’ entire roster and joining them is Vanadia, the cyborg who was created by Amanda Waller to kill the Titans.
The Titans’ Old Enemy Vanadia is Back as a New Member
From Enemy To Ally…But the Titans Are Skeptical
In the wake of the “Beast World” event, Waller had Professor T.O. Morrow create a weapon designed to eliminate the Titans. They used Vanessa, a young woman who wanted to be a superhero to be just like the Titans and died during a failed experiment. Morrow used her preserved brain and created an Amazo-like gynoid called Vanadia, that had all the Titans’ powers. She was programmed to kill the Titans, believing them to be impostors, but Cyborg thankfully removed her filters. Unfortunately, she was killed by Dark Raven before Vanadia ever got a chance to use her powers for good.
Now it seems that Cyborg is set to revive Vanadia and give her a chance to be the superhero she always wanted to be. While a noble pursuit, it’s understandable that this is probably going to disturb Vic’s teammates. They don’t really know Vanadia, and the last time they encountered her, she attempted to kill them. Not to mention, there’s the questionable ethics of Cyborg bringing someone back to life. However, this could be a good thing as Vanadia was a real powerhouse, and she could be a real asset to the Titans.
Vanadia is a Titans Team Unto Herself
The Titans Become Twice as Powerful with Her on the Team
While she wasn’t much compared to Dark Raven, Vanadia was more than capable of taking on almost the entire Titans by herself. If she’s just as powerful upon being resurrected, she’s going to be a real boon to the team, who could use her in almost any situation. She could serve as a backup for any potential member and double the efforts of any Titan on the squad. Of course, there’s some trust issues to be addressed, but if she manages to prove herself, the Titans are going to have to accept her.
If there’s one thing the Titans and the greater superhero community learned last year, it was that they’re stronger together. They shouldn’t turn Vanadia down just because she was used as a weapon by Waller. At her core, she’s a hero who wants to do good. And with the powers of every Titan, that’s an asset they can’t afford to turn down. Hopefully, Vanadia will convince the Titans that she deserves to be on the team and make them their most powerful incarnation yet.
Titans #23 is available on May 21st from DC Comics.
