The following contains major spoilers for Batman and Robin #18, on sale now from DC Comics.
Damian Wayne is officially giving up on being a member of the Batman Family.
After a series of grueling encounters with the seemingly supernatural serial killer known as Memento, the eponymous heroes of Batman and Robin #18 find themselves faced with some wildly different concerns. For the former, those include ensuring his city, and more importantly, his family’s safety in the face of such an overwhelming opponent. For the latter however, that means turning the hunt for Memento into his last mission as Robin, and Damian Wayne means it.

Originally introduced in 1987’s Batman: Son of the Demon by Mike W. Barr and Jerry Bingham, Damian Wayne started out as a vague concept more so than an independent character. The son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, Damian wouldn’t make his first proper appearance in the pages of DC Comics’ mainline continuity until 2006’s Batman #655 by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert. In this modern incarnation, the character was brought to Gotham City by Talia in order to observe his father in action before embarking upon any sort of relationship with the Dark Knight.
Unfortunately, this early plot was all concocted by Ra’s al Ghul in the hopes of using his own grandson as his next living vessel. Upon discovering the existence of Damian, Batman’s entire life was engulfed in the mystery and deeply buried secrets that had been right under his feet the entire time, all without him ever being the wiser. Thankfully, by the time the dust was settled, Damian was not only safe, he was given the opportunity to get to know both his father and some semblance of an ordinary life in Gotham City as the then latest Robin.

Harley Quinn Almost Got Murdered By Another Batman Villain
DC’s most popular antivillain of all time just got dangerously close to one of Batman’s worst enemies – and every single other version of him.
In recent months, Batman, Robin, and their allies have been besieged by the untouchable, mind-bending serial killer known as Memento. On top of his devoted followers, or Mementists, Memento appears to have an innate understanding of the Dark Knight and how to play on his innermost fears and insecurities. This could be due to the past interactions the two had while Bruce Wayne was studying under an esteemed detective in London decades prior, though how Memento would have survived all that time or have uncovered Bruce’s secrets still remains to be seen.
