Warning! Spoilers ahead for DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #6!A powerful villain could end up being the key to bringing the Creature Commandos and Superman together in James’ Gunn’s anticipated upcoming reboot. It wasn’t that long ago that the team of monsters delighted fans everywhere. Now, with Superman’s new film on the horizon, a particular villain could end up uniting the Man of Steel and the Creature Commandos.
In a preview for DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #6, the Commandos are flying on one of Brainiac’s ships and heading straight for Delaware, where the President is hosting the Secretary-General at the All-American State Fair. Brainiac is going to kill the leaders as part of a twisted plan to redesign humanity in order to ‘improve’ it.
Mina tells her comrades that if they can stop Brainiac, they can prove to the world that they’re not the bad guys. The team eventually makes it to the fair and prepares for battle, unsure if they can even take down Superman’s nemesis.
Fighting a Classic Superman Enemy is a Bold Choice
While comic book fans have known about DC Comics’ B-list team of B-movie monsters for years, the Creature Commandos were introduced to a wider audience last fall with their animated, self-titled series. The Max original was the first entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe and will be followed later this year by Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot. While the animated series had a different roster with characters like the Bride, Doctor Phosphorous, and Weasel, Creature Commandos was well-received for its humorous tone and action scenes. It’s also been renewed for another season to come sometime later.
While this Creature Commandos series is set in its own universe, the team’s altercation with Brainiac poses an interesting hypothetical. After all, Gunn has made it clear that his DCU is a lived-in one and that Superman and the Creature Commandos do inhabit the same world, even if they’ve never met. Frank Grillo is even set to reprise his role as Rick Flag, Sr. in Superman later this year, creating a solid link between the two DCU entries. If Gunn’s universe took a page out of this comic, it’d be a solid way of uniting the Creature Commandos and Superman.
Could Brainiac Bring the DCU’s Creature Commandos and Superman Together?
The Team is Ready for a Much Bigger Threat and Stronger Allies
As far as the DCU is concerned, the Creature Commandos are a resilient bunch who managed to take on the forces of a small nation. Should Brainiac ever appear in the DCU to take on Superman, it’d be nice to see the fan-favorite monsters pop in and give the Man of Steel a helping hand (whether he asks for it or not). With the Creature Commandos’ latest adventure coming to a close, it’ll be interesting to see if they ever get the chance to fight alongside Superman one day.
DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #6 is available on April 9th from DC Comics.
