The DCU is finally taking off this summer with James Gunn’s Superman leading the charge. David Corenswet’s Man of Steel will be introducing a new generation of moviegoers to superheroes like Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl. The latter of which is played by Isabela Merced (The Last of Us). Now, before Hawkgirl makes her big screen debut, the famous Justice League member is getting a new figure from McFarlane Toys.
A part of McFarlane’s DC Multiverse seven-inch-scale collection, this Hawkgirl Justice League of America comic figure will be #36 in their Collector Edition sub-series. The character is seen in her traditional green-and-yellow costume. Hawkgirl’s signature wings and hawk mask are included too, alongside her weapon of choice: her deadly mace. Like all McFarlane DC Multiverse Figures, Hawkgirl will have a character-specific art card as well. This figure goes up for pre-order on Wednesday, May 28th at select retailers.
Hawkgirl & The Justice League of America
Shiera Hall, aka Hawkgirl, has been a DC staple for 85 years. Whether she’s been depicted as a reincarnated Egyptian goddess or a space detective with actual wings, this Justice League member has appeared in many places outside the comics. If you grew up in the 2000s, you were likely introduced to Hawkgirl in the Justice League series, in which she was voiced by Maria Canals-Barrera.
Hawkgirl was a major part of the series, but she had her most important arc in the series finale “Starcrossed.” The three-part story is one of the most epic and emotional of the entire DCAU, the shared universe that started with 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series. That rich emotional core was in large part to her relationship with John Stewart’s Green Lantern. The latter will be featured in the new DCU in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, where he’ll be played by Aaron Pierre. It’ll be interesting to see if the two will develop a partnership, friendship, or romance in future DCU stories to come.
Back to the action figure side of this superhero equation, McFarlane Toys already announced their entire Superman figure lineup last month. These included Krypto the Superdog, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern, and Lex Luthor. The only major character left out of the super toy fun was Hawkgirl. With this comic version releasing, hopefully that means Merced will get her own DCU figure soon enough.
