An actor from The Hunger Games series and three others are in consideration to play Clayface in James Watkins’ planned DC Universe feature about the character, as per a new industry rumor. Conversations about the project began in early 2021 when filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game) mentioned that he wanted to do a standalone Clayface feature. However, Flanagan ultimately couldn’t helm the movie due to his commitments to other projects. This led to Watkins boarding the project as its director in February 2025.
Scooper @MyTimeToShineH claims that Tom Blyth, Jack O’Connell, George MacKay, and Leo Woodall “are all testing for the role of Clayface in the DCU.” Notably, Blyth played Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023), the prequel to Jennifer Lawrence-led The Hunger Games movie.
Meanwhile, Jack O’Connell became popular for his performances in projects like Skins, This Is England (2006), and Back to Black (2024). Most recently, he played the antagonistic vampire Remmick in 2025’s Sinners.
George MacKay won a BAFTA Scotland Award for his performance as Aaron in the 2013 drama For Those in Peril. Some of the other movies he has recently appeared in are Femme (2023) and The End (2024).
As for Leo Woodall, he gained the audience’s attention by portraying Jack in HBO’s satirical anthology series The White Lotus. He also appeared opposite Ambika Mod in Netflix’s One Day (2024).
In DC Comics, there have been several incarnations of Clayface over the years. The logline for the Clayface movie suggests that it could be Basil Karlo, the first iteration of the character.
Mike Flanagan penned an early version of the script. According to recent reports, the studio brought in Drive screenwriter Hossein Amini to rewrite the screenplay. Clayface is expected to premiere on September 11, 2026.
