A social media post by actor Garret Dillahunt prompted speculation that he might be the Green Arrow of the DC Universe. While James Gunn quickly refuted the idea, the post sparked further discussion as to who could play Oliver Queen. With that in mind, here are five possibilities for who might bring the Emerald Archer to life.

Charlie Hunnam is perhaps the biggest fan favorite to play Green Arrow. He first found fame as Jax Teller on Sons of Anarchy, where he rose to power leading a gang of outlaws while upholding his father’s legacy. These are both struggles Oliver Queen faced in the comics. Hunnam also has a background in action and experience with comic book adaptations. He played Kai in Rebel Moon and will play the lead character of Leo in the upcoming adaptation of the true crime comic Criminal. However, Hunnam is apparently uninterested in the role of Oliver Queen.

Alan Tudyk is already playing multiple parts in the DCU. He voices several characters on Creature Commandos and a robot in the upcoming Superman film. However, he has yet to be confirmed for an on-camera role in any DCU production.
Given he also voiced Green Arrow in Young Justice and the Injustice video game series, some have speculated Tudyk might appear as an older Emerald Archer. It should be noted several Green Arrow comics, like The Longbow Hunters, centered around a middle-aged Oliver Queen. As such, this is not a far-fetched idea.
A British model and actor, Harry Goodwins is best known for his work on Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen series on Netflix. He plays the role of Jack Glass, a professional boxer. Beyond having the physicality for the part, Goodwins is apparently interested in the role of Green Arrow. Indeed, he’s begun lobbying for the part on social media, sharing fan-altered photos of himself meant to show how he would look as the Emerald Archer.

Australian actor Travis Fimmel is another fan-favorite pick to play Oliver Queen. His name was first flaunted for his performance as Ragnar Lothbrok in the television series Vikings. More recently, he played the role of the sinister soldier Desmond Hart in Dune: Prophecy. With extensive experience in playing conflicted men and a background in action, Fimmel might make a great Green Arrow.

For eight seasons, Stephen Amell played the part of Oliver Queen on The CW series Arrow. When asked about recreating the role for the DCU in 2024, Amell replied “Yeah, I’d do it .” His portrayal was often decried for being too grim compared to the Green Arrow of the comics. However, that was due to the show’s writing rather than his performance. Amell has been shown to have a similarly sarcastic humor in his personal appearances at conventions and in other roles. Given that, he could easily portray a more traditional Emerald Archer if given the chance.
