Today is Superman Day, commemorating the official release date of Action Comics #1, Superman‘s first appearance, and with the Man of Steel being particularly busy this year, with the release of a brand-new major motion picture this July, Superman Day has taken on a greater importance this time around. Naturally, then, DC is fully tying into the release of the Superman movie with a “Summer of Superman,” beginning with a Summer of Superman Special #1 this week, but also with the release of a brand-new Superman series, Superman Unlimited, by the superstar creative team of Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque. Ahead of the release of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, DC will be including a special ten-page “Superman Unlimited #0″ as part of a special flipbook comic as part of its Free Comic Book Day entries this year. Free Comic Book Day is on May 3.
CBR has an exclusive first look at the first three (fully lettered) pages of the Superman Unlimited #0 story for you to read, from Slott, Albuquerque, colorist Marcelo Maiolo, and letterer Dave Sharpe.

What are DC’s Free Comic Book Day entries for 2025?
DC’s entries for May 3’s Free Comic Book Day start with a flipbook combining an Absolute Universe story and a DC Universe “All In” story, which, in this case, is a Superman Unlimited #0 story. From DC’s press release about the issue, it notes:
First up in DC’s FCBD flipbook, the core-line DC Universe soars into Superman action with the dazzling debut of superstar writer Dan Slott alongside acclaimed artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo! In this special “zero issue” installment of the forthcoming Superman Unlimited ongoing series, you will witness the prelude to the biggest Superman comic book adventure of the year, as well as an ominous new threat from the heavens that will change the course of Kryptonian life on planet Earth as we know it!
Then, on the flip side of DC’s FCBD flipbook, DC’s Absolute Universe expands in a new story by Jeff Lemire, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi. Dark forces begin to gather in the shadows… forces that have been waiting a very long time to shape events and seize control. All the while, a mysterious figure watches—but who is this powerful new character, and what do they want with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the emerging heroes?
DC will also have two entries for younger readers, including ANOTHER Superman title!
Fans of early reader and middle grade storytelling will be treated to previews of upcoming DC graphic novels Superman’s Good Guy Gang and Kanga-U: Tests and Tournaments with two additional 2025 FCBD Special Edition comic books available for free on May 3 while supplies last. The two new DC graphic novels will be available this summer at all participating comic book shops, booksellers, and mass-market retailers. Kanga-U: Tests and Tournaments (ISBN 9781799501626) publishes on June 3 followed by Superman’s Good Guy Gang (ISBN 9781799504061) on July 1.
The Free Comic Book Day story should really whet people’s appetites ahead of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21.

DC Dusts Off An Ultra Rare Comics Format to Celebrate Superman This Summer
DC Comics is bringing back a beloved comic book format to kick off their explosive Summer of Superman publishing initiative.
In its press release announcing the launch of Superman Unlimited #1, DC explained what to expect from the new series:
To kick off DC’s Superman Unlimited series in May, a massive extinction-level Kryptonite asteroid showers Superman’s greatest weakness down upon the earth, creating an arms race for the new most valuable resource on the planet: Green K. The greater availability of Kryptonite in the DC Universe changes the balance of power in the criminal empires of Metropolis and across the globe: Intergang, under new leadership, is on the rise, with practically all their foot soldiers carrying at least one clip of Kryptonite bullets on them. The asteroid left massive Kryptonite deposits to be mined, and it houses unlimited horrors yet to be unpacked. To survive, Superman will need to forge new alliances, new tech and new tactics if he hopes to carry on his quest for truth, justice and a better tomorrow!
Superman Unlimited won’t just provide Superman’s nemeses with near-unlimited Kryptonite: the Daily Planet gets an upgrade. A merger with a new incarnation of Morgan Edge’s Galaxy Communications expands the Daily Planet brand into a multimedia news platform with a cable news channel, website, strong social media presence, and—yes—Lois Lane is still editor in chief. Daily Planet regulars Jimmy Olsen, Ron Troupe, Cat Grant and Steve Lombard will staff satellite branches across the DC universe, creating a global network. Behind it all is the tech savvy of a new IT specialist from Gorilla City, King Solovar’s goddaughter, Tee-Nah.
Dan Slott added his two cents about how excited he is about the new series, telling DC in the press release, “He’s the first and the greatest superhero of all-time, and I’ve been waiting my whole life to tell stories about him. Not just because of all the amazing powers he has, but because of who he is inside. Rafael Albuquerque and I are going to take him—and you—to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for Superman, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and foes too. If you’ve never read a Superman book, a DC book, or any comic book before—or if you’ve been a Superman fan your entire life—you couldn’t ask for a better place to take the leap and go all in than Superman Unlimited #1.”
Superman Unlimited #0 (as part of the DC Absolute Universe/DC All In FCBD issue) will be at comic book stores on May 3 for Free Comic Book Day.
Superman Unlimited #1 is set to be released on May 21.
