Warning! Spoilers ahead for Aquaman #2!As strange as it sounds, one of the DC Universe’s heroes has actually figured out how to bloodbend. Things are still a bit topsy-turvy after the metahumans powers were scrambled, with many still possessing the wrong abilities. But one hero has made the best of this situation by finding a killer application of his new power.
In Aquaman #2 by Jeremy Adams and John Timms, Aquaman emerges from an ominous portal in search of his family. Arthur is nearly taken hostage by an army of Grindylow, but Aquaman uses his new hydrokinetic powers to manipulate the moisture in the mud to defeat them.
Aquaman makes his way to a castle belonging to the Grindylow’s queen, but he’s taken hostage so that the queen can steal his blood. But just like with the mud, Aquaman uses his new powers to manipulate the pool of blood beneath him and overpowers the queen, freeing himself and the other captives.
That’s Right, Aquaman Knows How to Bloodbend Now
Amanda Waller’s Plan Accidentally Gave Aquaman His Coolest Upgrade Ever
In her bid to take the DC Universe’s metahumans under control, Amanda Waller launched her most coordinated attack on the superhero community and assembled Task Force VII, a team of augmented Amazos. These were some of the most powerful Amazos ever created and were able to siphon the powers of heroes as strong as Superman or the godlike Spectre. Thankfully, the heroes destroyed Task Force VII, returning the powers to the heroes, though some managed to get the wrong ones. In Aquaman’s case, he accidentally got his wife Mera’s hydrokinetic powers and is still struggling to adapt to them.
Amanda Waller’s war against the superheroes can be seen in Absolute Power (2024)!
Unfortunately for Aquaman, the one person best suited to teach Arthur about his new power is missing, along with the rest of Atlantis. But thankfully, he’s quickly learning about all the things his hydrokinesis allows him to do. The mud was a great start, but being able to ‘bend’ blood is a fantastic expansion of his power. After all, hydrokinesis isn’t going to help much if Aquaman is in a place with little-to-no water. But there’s always going to be blood when Aquaman gets into a fight, giving him an advantage that makes him more powerful than he already was.

Don’t Call Aquaman Useless with a Power Like Bloodbending
Despite him being a competent hero for years, it’s easy for fans to call Aquaman ‘useless’ in most situations, especially now that his hydrokinesis requires water to be effective. But as he’s shown in this issue, he’s capable of manipulating the moisture in blood (and let’s face it, there’s always plenty of that stuff around in a superhero fight). It might be gross, but it’s a damn cool application of his hydrokinesis. No matter where Aquaman is, he’s always got a secret weapon literally coursing through his veins that makes him a bonafide threat.
